Microsoft Loop

Loop is Microsoft’s answer to Google Workspaces. Loop consists of three parts or elements: Loop components, Loop pages, and Loop Workspaces.

Loop components are elements that allow users to complete work and collaborate in the flow of work, either on a Loop page or in a chat, email, document, or online meeting. Components can be added to Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Note, Excel, and Teams. As a result, they always stay in sync across all Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Loop pages are flexible canvases where users can organize their components and pull in helpful elements like links, files, or data in ways that suit their specific project needs. Loop pages can start small and continue to grow to match the size of the ideas. A comparison would be a Microsoft Teams Channel consisting of all documents relating to a project, and everyone can edit and view the information.

Loop workspaces are shared spaces that allow users to see and group everything important to their project. Loop workspaces make it easy for users to catch up on what everyone is working on, react to ideas and track progress toward shared goals. Unfortunately, as of the date of this post, there is no publicly available demo of the actual application. This video shows Loop in action but is a little fast-paced. Pause and zoom.

Microsoft is inserting the components into Office 365 with patches and upgrades. However, the Loop application will be released “sometime in the next several months.”

The next phase of Office 365 will use Virtual Reality headsets to meet in a virtual room and use this tool to interact with other users individually or as a group. No more talking heads on a Microsoft Teams meeting. The remote employee can participate as if they are in the same room as other users.
